Battlestar Galactica / Pegasus Size Comparison

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

After doing copious researching for my Lego mico projects I was shocked to the discover that the Internets were sorely lacking in this.
galactica-pegasus-scale-study-2
This is much harder than you would think due to the total lack of official information on the ships. There is huge difference of opinion about the actual scales of these ships and the battlestar wiki unfortunately is home to some of the most outlandish theories (and is not even internally consistent across it’s articles).

For this posting I started with this awesome Star Trek comparison chart as the basis, then matched the scale based on two observable features: the main gun batteries and the Viper launch tube opening/hatches. Both of these match in scale, giving a reasonable confirmation to the idea that Pegasus is ~1600 meters long.

A smattering of worthwhile links…

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

A forum discussion on writing and scene breakdown for comics. I found it fascinating, generally I am a geek for this sort of craft/technique discussion, and of course I still harbor ambitions to dabble in this myself so it was generally worthwhile.

Rod Guen is an illustrator with some lovely work. Reminds me of Disney's animated Tarzan, which I thought was beautiful albeit slightly lacking storywise. He's French I think so maybe he was involved?

Anyways both those links thanks to Matthew, who's comic I can now read the sound effects to.

On the Battlestar front we have Galactica.tv, a magazine style site with interviews and a great series on Colonial fleet rank insignia, Galactica Station's concept and development art gallery full of pure image win for fans of the new series, and the hilarious 5-Minute Battlestar Galactica comic where we learn that Lee sucks at buying gifts. Happy Monday!

And by the time they came for Lee Adama, there was no one left to speak for him…

Wherein our heroes learn of the phrophecy and that which it foretells…

“Right, so I’ve been hanging out at the Sci-Fi forums a lot, see? Seedy joint I know. But I met these fellas see? And they hooked me up with some inside information, if you know what I mean? So here’s the skinny Mac, if you’d actually watched that 1978 show instead of breaking off the missiles to feed to your younger brother ya might know this too…”

With that, the shifty eyed man in the brown fedora pushed a packed across my desk. Inside was a theory. A theory which dovetailed nicely with the one Rob and I have been brewing. The theory is called, “Count Iblis will be played by Dirk Benedict

In a nutshell the “beings of light” from the original show which originally got Rob’s gears turning are ancient pseudo-mystical creatures which are in opposition to an evil equally mystical Count Iblis. It is revealed that Count Iblis was responsible for the 1978 Cylons overthrowing their creators (lizard people) essentially playing the role of the Cylon God. However before we learn of this he shows up as an alien friendly to Galactica who offers to show the Colonials the way to Earth.

Sound familiar?
